Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten

Our Pre-kindergarten curriculum focuses on the whole child and the skills needed for kindergarten readiness. We want our children to be ready for the big change to kindergarten and the academic and social/emotional challenges that await them. We accomplish this by incorporating small group, as well as, whole group learning, daily journals in math and language, and developmental profiles. Our daily lessons are filled with meaningful learning experiences and encourage responsibility, leadership, and independence during this important year.

MATH:

The children are challenged in math with hands-on, engaging math activities. The teachers teach with concepts and continue to use the previously taught math skills as the children progress. Our math is children using manipulatives, activities that are fun and engaging, keeping a math journal, and learning that requires critical thinking skills.

LANGUAGE:

Language and writing are taught in whole group, as well as, small group. A language journal is part of their small experience. In order for children to be successful, readers it is essential for them to master letter recognition and sounds.

Students also enrich their language abilities by participating in a weekly Spanish class.

HANDWRITING:

Children who master handwriting are better, more creative writers. The earlier we teach children to master handwriting, the more likely they are to succeed in school, and write with speed and ease in all subjects. We use fun, engaging and developmentally appropriate instructional methods to enable children to master handwriting as an automatic and comfortable skill.

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL:

Learning and displaying appropriate social skills has been linked to success later in life. Though it's not typically the first thing people think about when considering what children learn, it is definitely an important factor. Social skills are the tools that enable people to communicate, learn, ask questions, ask for help, get their needs met in appropriate ways, get along with others, make friends, and develop healthy relationships. Social skills enable children to interact appropriately with their peers.
